32-bit photography usually refers to a 32-bit HDR (High Dynamic Range) image, where each pixel contains vastly more brightness information than a standard photo.
Most JPEG photos are 8-bit, meaning they can display 256 brightness levels per color channel. Professional RAW files are often 12-bit, 14-bit, or 16-bit. A 32-bit HDR image stores a much wider range of light values, from deep shadows to extremely bright highlights.

Is 32-Bit Photography Useful for Your Work?

For much of your Scotland landscape photography, a carefully exposed 14-bit RAW file will often produce results that are nearly as good while being much faster to process.

Use 32-bit HDR when:
